oh god this vid making me want to keep discus even more but ive got a load of convicts and yellows and a few cribs in my tank. hmmm could always get a 3rd tank as other one i have bas 2 turtles in. so it may be the time for a new tank. whats the link for how to keep them and food ect please

Interesting the method you use to add in the fish. I was advised ages ago to change it to the method you use to adding about two glasses of water into the back. Then leave the fish in the bag for 15-20 minutes. Any advice please?

What I do is acclimate them for a little while, then I get my net and my bucket place it over it and do the same method as well. It's to prevent death because of oxygen mixing with ammonia

I think so many are nervous to keep discus because of the stigma behind them when it comes to care level. Some newer videos on discus could help change that once again for your newer subscribers. They are beautiful fish 😁

I love that you went with red eye tetras because they are one of the best (¿?) schooling fish out there. Their basically always together and I always wanted to see a large group in a large tank. 👍

Joey if you heat the room not the aquariums why do you put them in the tank to acclimate?

For the video and educational reasons. I just do the acclimation like everyone should instead of custom to my set up. If I didn’t, I get hundreds of comments that call me names and I have to reply to them all stating “I hear the room and not the tanks”... even though I have said it countless times 😂 . Keep in mind, I’m going into my 13th year of making videos. I know exactly what is going to be said most of the time. Yet... sometimes if the video is too specific, I don’t get any comments and the video performs poorly due to lack of engagement. So at times I will purposely leave out something, say something or pronounce something in a way that gets the comments section flooded.

I'm happy I can read the back of the medication for my fish so I can correctly medicate them safely. I like the med that I know work quickly rather then hope the all natural meds work.

@Akumagits ok, so you basically cant get fish meds in Canada. Who in their right mind would make a vet appointment for a school of tetras? I can understand doing that more if you have a large fish that is in need of antibiotics. But let's face facts, the vast majority of fish keepers are not going to be running to the vet with their fish. Yes misuse of antibiotics is bad, but you are not going to run into too many issues of that, at all with fish.

If anybody rinse their bags and use them again. Because that's what I do I rinse my bags out several times and then we use them again when I go to the store. Just to save plastic. By the way I know those plant roots on the back of your tanks. Mine look the same way too

rainbows are honestly such underrated fish i'm lucky enough that since im aussie i can get a bunch of different varieties. (my fav are the goyder river reds!) congrats on getting back into discus!!!! hope you have fun with them!

Ok @the king of diy, I do not understand why you are perpetuating the fallacy that one can not get medications for fish in Canada. Health Canada's orders are that antibiotics for fish, and other forms of pets, cannot be sold in Pet Stores. You need to get a prescription from a Vet. Unregulated use of antibiotics is very bad. While I do think it is very admirable that you are promoting an alternative to antibiotics that is readily available for sale in LFSs. You are doing everyone a disservice for promoting this line of thinking, and not explaining to people why.

There is 100% cross contamination even if you dump the fish store water. The fish themselves will already be infected with parasites, fungus, bacteria, etc., so it makes no difference mixing the waters. It's crazy to me that people still believe this nonsense.

It's more so that you dont know the exact ammonia levels, in the bag water. With dumping 10 bags of discus in the tank, that's a whole lot of pet store water going into a tank. If I was introducing 1 or 2 small fish in a small bag I have just temp acclimated and dumped. I dont do it for any reason other than that. Of course the fish themselves would already have a parasite or other nasty on it. That's why he said quarantine like 5 times.

they probably medicate their water causing it to turn brownish at an angle. sometimes when i get fish from my LFS the water is yellow.

Maybe the bucket was a little dirty? It did look a bit dingy, but if he is using it for fish only it's not gonna matter a whole as the fish aren't sitting in that water.

discus need very peaceful environments and archer fish can be temperamental and potentially aggressive. The discus would either die off rapidly or not thrive if they were in the 2000g

You should not see bowing in a glass tank. Empty it immediately.

If its a rimmed tank there should be a brace in the middle possibly even 2. If its missing you can pop the rim off and silicone a euro style brace if you cant return the tank

So plop and drop, would this be applied to freshwater shrimp that had to be shipped for 2 days? I haven't had great survival rates for my first 2 tanks.

@Jennifer Bingham well in my research, and not so much my experience, invertebrates can be much more prone to shock resulting in a fatality during acclimation. The only issue I run into personally, is I typically have to order mine which sit in a bag for 2ish days. By the time they get to me I'm split between an aggressive drip acclimation or the aforementioned plop and drop.

I truly do not know about shrimp at all. They are not something I have ever really been interested in keeping. I did not know that you have to drip acclimate shrimp. I have watched a gazillion videos on fish keeping and many of them have shrimp in their tanks. Out of all of them, none of them treat their water changes any differently because there are shrimp. Would the drip acclimation be for shrimp only tanks specifically? I enjoy learning something new.

drip acclimating shrimp is the only way to go. even water changes should be dripped in.

Here's one for you Joey. My old lady just brought home another "parrot" fish. I seen it and nearly jumped out the window. She brought home a dang flower horn........ so I thought. She tells me it's a parrot fish. I quickly pointed out the body colors (typical spotted with the red, pink, blue) and told her she really fd up. After doing a quick search......kirin parrots are real! Hybrid parrot/ flowerhorn! The holy grail in my little fish bubble. What do you know about these fish? They are also referred to as bonsai flowerhorn.

I can’t find or order that stuff and My fish keep getting skinnier and skinner it’s at a slow rate now I have done water changes more higher temp salt garlic ..I also made up my own fish medication by ordering Panacur Granule Off line seems to have slow down I mean maybe 1 fish passes every 6-10 weeks but I feel I have not gotten rid of it just keeping it at bay also feel bad for my fish if is in discomfort we need more fish illness help in 🇨🇦 please help us Joey
