Constructing a Tide Pool: The saga continues.. Most reefs are at an average depth of between 100 to 410 Ft. Down. - Any 'Home Hobbyist' would need an awfully Tall tank to 'replicate' those depth pressures. Hence: 'Tide Pools.'

It's best to put the GSP in a spot by itself, so it can't spread. Or put it against the back wall to grow up the background. Currently it will cover all the rock from the front horseshoe, and no matter what you plant there, the GSP will overrun it. I get that you like it, we all have specific corals that we want and feel it's worth the risk.... while I think it's pretty, I don't have any in my reef. :) Your best approach is to put it where you can manage it. The lower left front corner would be cool, too.

That triggerfish will 100% eat your coral. It might be instant or take weeks or months but he will eat it at some point and once he does he will go to town. In a short amount of time he can destroy a large amount of coral.

Hey man, I have been watching a lot of your self made tank videos and I have made acrylic tank myself. It a 600L tank with 65cm tall; 70cm wide; 140 long tank. I made a mistake a not making the acrylic sheet thick enough which is half inch. I made full on the tank with stone and sand but are scary to death that this might not work. I did actually add top piece and also added 1cm triangle strip to all the side if you know what I mean. Do u have any suggestions? Do u think it is strong enough? Or comment? Also the sand is about 5cm deep. Please, if any other person can help that would also be great. Many thxxxxx

A word of warning, I've been keeping saltwater reef tanks for over 15yrs and they're A LOT of work and monthly maintenance can be very expensive, I'm talking $100+ per month easily. It's not a decision to take lightly. The larger the tank the better success you will have but the greater the monthly upkeep cost. To give an idea, My 75gal reef cost me around $150 a month and that doesn't include the electric cost to power the 10 power cords required to run my tank.

They’ve been on ick medication and fungal infection medication for a week now so I’m wondering when I can add them into my main take. I read 2 to 4 weeks but I’m just wondering if I need to do that because they’ve already finished their medication and appear healthy

I would keep the Green Star Polyps (GSP) separate from everything else. It will look good as an isolated lump of GSP. Otherwise in no time it will cover your whole rock structure and any other corals you want to put there will not thrive. Getting GSP off rocks where you don't want it is very difficult.

Joey.. you need help with saltwater. Take your time do some research and try to think critically. I know you see everybody telling you the clown trigger is a no go. You will also have a problem when the anemones wander around the tank stinging all your corals. This isn’t freshwater, corals are very finicky. You need to watch nitrate phosphate Alk Cal and Mag. Watch BRS. Watch BRS. WATCH BULK REEF SUPPLY.

Assuming you know more about all of this than he does is a big assumption. He's said before that a lot of testing and "nitty gritty" type things never make it onto the channel because most of the viewers don't care about it, at least not to the extent that he'd have to cover it for it to make sense. TL;DR - He knows more than you think.

How much work and research do you do before choosing which korals to have and where to place them? :O Just started a salt water tank myself and want to know how detaol oriented i need to be :/
MILO SYKO
MILO SYKO Ամիս առաջ
I’ve learned from mostly experience, if something isn’t happy then you should move it higher or lower and see how it reacts to the new spot. Honestly though if your light is good enough coral should be happy anywhere you place them. Highly recommend staying away from sps as they are very sensitive to change. Anemones are awesome and sometimes pretty hardy, don’t touch them much and let them move to a spot they like. The only other consideration I would think about is if the corals are close enough to start stinging each other.
Jamie
Jamie Ամիս առաջ
Really depends on the person. Someone with less experience would do significantly more research than one who has been keeping corals for decades. If you're planning on keeping corals or any fish for that matter, I wouldn't concern yourself with thinking how detail-oriented you need to be, but how much you are willing to put your mind into keeping an animal. Generally, corals are known to be hard to keep, and even then, different types of corals have varying difficulty. However, it's far better to be overprepared rather than underprepared and you will always grow with more experience :)
